The King-Post Crane is another innovative crane design developed for specialized applications. There are times when the overhead of the vessel simply can not contain the length of a beam crane system. Other architectural features may prevent the crane from stowing or the structure section-height of the overhead may not accommo-date the typical overhead crane. The King Post Crane melds the utility of an overhead crane with the mounting structure and operational characteristics of a more conven-tional rotating deck crane system. A vertical King-Post column spans the distance between decks, attaching to both the sole as well as the overhead. This design permits the moment-load of the crane to be shared between decks. The crane boom is fixed to the King-Post and nested just under the vessel’s overhead. A telescoping boom exten-sion moves the crane’s pick-point along the length of the boom, allowing the tender to be moved outboard while the crane boom rotates.

OH-Type HYDRAULIC OVERHEAD FULL BEAM CRANES: Nautical Structures manufactures overhead beam crane systems specific and unique to each tender-handling application. The OH-Type Overhead beam Crane is a full-beam-width crane system that utilizes the full beam-width of the vessel to stow and sup-port the cantilevered moment-load of the cranes. The beam-sections are supported with a series of wheel-sets and are typically transported outboard with a tensioned chain-drive system, or with a special-ized linear-winch drive system. A contained hydraulic linear winch is installed into each end of the crane beam, providing service to both sides of the vessel. The winches incorporate a self-stowage feature that conceals the hook and weight assembly when the crane is stowed. One of Nautical Structures’ most notable beam crane projects was an 8000-pound (3600-Kg) capacity full beam width system delivered to the Delta Marine 164-ft (50-m) M.Y. Triton. This aluminum overhead crane system integrated into the yacht’s composite superstructure, and launches the yacht’s tenders to both the starboard and port sides. One unique feature of this particular system is its designed capability to launch the tenders while the yacht is running underway at cruise speeds. These cranes had to be engineered to not only handle the vertical hoisting loads, but also the side-loading imparted while the tender is being pulled through the water. A towing boom arrangement was developed to mitigate this potential, but the cranes had to be designed for the worst-case loading sce-nario nonetheless. SL-Sliding Hydraulic Style

SL-The Sliding style Overhead Beam Crane is a compact multi-stage telescoping crane. It is designed to work independently as an aft tender garage crane, or to work in synchronized matched pairs to launch large tenders from a tender garage. The primary material of construction is aluminum to reduce the potential for corrosion and system weight. These cranes are available in a series of section heights: B7, B10, B12, B14, B18 {6.75” – 17.75” / 172mm – 450mm} The SWL Capacities of these cranes range from 1,100lb (500kg) to over 20,000-Lbs (9,070kgs). These compact designs permit the crane structure to nest into the vessel’s overhead and live within the confines of the tender garage space.
