Why Integrate the Crane?

Often we are asked; "does the davit have to be so large"?, "Do I have to have this equipment so visible on my boat"?  "Is there another way we can get this done"?  After-the-fact once the boat is built integrating the davit or crane can be problematic.  Doing a proper job of integration usually involves structural modification to the vessel, and this is easiest done during original constructon.  For this reason Nautical Structures has worked hard to develop working relationships with some of the finest designers and naval architects working in the industry today, so the new boats being delivered have every opporunity to enjoy the benefits of equipment integration.  When designed early in the process, and developed properly with the boat builder, an integrated davit system is really no more complicated or expensive than a standard off-the-shelf davit.  During the design process all of the factors influencing a proper tender-handling system are considered.  This includes the stowed geometry of the crane, the required maximum outreach of the boom, the rotation service zone, consideration of any fixed structure that needs to be protected, and the total moment load the decks and superstructure must resolve to handle the loads of the davit system.

INTEGRATED DAVIT SYSTEMS

Smaller yachts often desire davit integration.  The vessel's structure is smaller, less conducive to mounting and/or displaying the davit system.  Not every owner may desire to carry a tender but recognizes the value of having a tender-launching system on board.  Nautical Structures is proud of our many achievements in davit integration; collaborating with a number of well-known yacht builders to achieve a look and purpose unique to that vessel.  Perhaps Nautical Structures can develop a specialty tender-handling system for your build?

Nautical Structures developed one of the best-known davit integration designs with Lazzara Yachts, beginning with their very first 76-foot build.  Since that day every Lazzara Yacht built has enjoyed some type of integrated tender-handling system.  A davit built into the vessel's bulwarks takes advantage of the similar structure geometry; long narrow structure.  Typically the vessel's bulwarks are dead-space elements, perfect for housing the davit.  The Lazzara Yacht integration takes advantage of this feature, and the davit is housed under a fiberglass covering that moves with the davit's boom.

Tiara Yachts is another innovating builder that utilizes Nautical Structures' integration experience.  Over a decade ago the Tiara 50 incorporated a Nautical Structures PassaCrane; a specialty davit that stowed across the swim platform, integrated into a transom box.  A small periscoping standpipe elevated the PassaCrane for deployment.  Once deployed the system is used as a boarding gangway, as well as a davit system.  Recently Tiara introduced their new 54-foot Express yacht.  This yacht incorporates a very custom integrated davit into the aft lazarette/storage locker.  A door opens up to expose the compartment, and the davit deploys from inside the compartment servicing the swim platform.

Cruisers Yachts is another builder that appreciates the utility of an integrated davit.  Both their Express 50 and Express 52 offer the MC800EX custom davit integrated into a transom box.  This davit hides in the transom just aft of the seating, and services the swim platform with an 800-pound capacity davit system.
